The Naive Education system
Education is the corner stone of modern civilization , it is what transforms man from ignorance into civilization. The inception of education is the most poignant and essential feature of mankind. Modern Science and Technology has only because of education reaching the realms of the vast public.
Yet in today's scenario Education has become an ostensible status symbol, something which differentiates penury and royalty. The core competencies bestowed upon the student are directly related to the nature of available empoloyment opportunities which are clearly lopsided towards the Information Technology Sector. A sector which does not require intelligence or creativity but requires a form of perpetual obedience and abstract naiveness in the professional spheres. The sector does not deal with original work but deals with support of software.
It is ironic to note that India does not have Patent laws for software. The nature of work in most It firms does not require any educational skill in reality contrary to the requirement on record by the Human Resources strategy in recruitment. The lack of relevance to educational skill is what expects the IT corporate sector to require that the students need not have skills in Mathematics or even programming language. The argument becomes obscure without a pertinent example. The testing department of a reputed IT firm deals with 1000s of lines of programming language codes and one of the most significant jobs is to remove the semi-colon in the wrong place and remove such trivial syntax errors. The students deal with extensive and elaborate subjects good enough to make them connoisseurs in the discipline but this is one example of what he gets to do! Another example is related to the Networking sector , an employee in a famous company noted " I was given a job to deal with the down link data regarding the implementation of 4G technology a few years before. I worked till midnight and called my manager and asked if I could go home? I only got a reply that 'you have only done the down link now who is going to do the up link?' thus I worked throughout the night till morning 5 am" Such is the nature of the IT employment in your country. India has not seen consistent manufacturing or original research in products or services , we have in modern times been doing the support and back office jobs. These jobs are clearly naive , rote ,heavily mechanical and clearly lack the necessity of any educational skill. Thus the education system aims at creating more and more people who are mere empty vessels who will bear the burden of servitude and never apply any kind of intelligence.
Todays schools do not teach the children to study but teaches them how to score marks. India is very ironically the home of great Nobel laureates like Sir C.V Raman and Subramanian Chandrashekar. Great scientists like J.C Bose. Yet in modern times or since independence no one associated with an Indian Institution has won a Nobel Prize in Physics, the most important discipline in research and development. Today Physics in India is treated as a second class subjects which in spite of its endeavor requiring nature in many colleges requires only mere pass marks. This shows the hypocrisy pertaining in the society regarding education. The stereotypical rush towards Engineering is only demeaning its quality. When Mechanical and Electronics Engineers will be picking out semi-colons, where is our nation heading , Where is make in India?
The certificate given to Engineers has a credible value only after the completion of GATE Or NET , clearing which requires more ability and skill than what they get upon mere graduation. There are cases where University gold medalists are not able to clear GATE and a huge crowd of the 80 percent mark holders who are also not able to clear GATE without any special training. The most putrid thing about Engineering education in our country is the way final year projects are done. The projects are manufactured or assembled together in the project centers which are loose organizations meant specifically for the purpose of providing Engineering students with final year projects. The vast majority of students follow this naive practice. The faculty are also incompetent and lack the skill to guide or even help students in their projects. In fact there are several cases where programming codes and MATLAB codes are given to students in the laboratory without the teacher explaining what the codes actually mean. The students ludicrously learn them by heart and kill their careers such. The faculty and the management who are so bothered about the dress the student wears or weather he has shaved his beard or not is not worried about what he learns. This is the sad nature of education in India.
